Obligatory E.A. Poe Blog from Baltimore Boy

I was just kind of driving around today and found myself driving down Pennsylvania Avenue, which eventually turns into Greene Street which drops you right by Westminster Church and Burial Ground in which Poe is interred.

I haven’t been there in a couple of years so I parked and meandered around the crypts and gravestones, totally cool.  I took a few photos so enjoy!ImageHere’s a poor photo of Westminster’s tower.

ImageI love these little gravestones sticking out of a little hill like random teeth.ImageI think this one is for a child that died.  Westminster had a few children’s graves….and a couple of mistresses, too.ImageI love this walkway of burial vaults. Good times.

ImageI love that there is a ruined wreath on the side of the grave marker dedicated to Virginia Clemm.  So cool that Poes’ grave is easily accessible.  There is also a nice Poe timeline present at the grave.  It highlights elements of Poes’ life and death in Baltimore.  What I think is most nifty is that according to the timeline, Walt Whitman was present at Poe’s burial.  Maybe he was singing the body eclectic?      And then there was this guy, just to remind you that you were definitely in Baltimore.ImageThis guy was doing his best impression of Poe when he was found in the days before he died.  Actually Poe was found in the street in Fells Point.  This guy is sleeping it off in a graveyard. I wonder if he can write?

I'm one nifty dude who is fascinated by his hometown; Baltimore, MD. It is persistently beautiful and ugly and I wish to live nowhere else ever again.
