“Take this thing back to Baltimore” II, Electric Boogaloo

Just a quick hit, here.  I feel the need to revisit the subject of an earlier blog o’ mine.  That subject being; Baltimore in the movies and how sometimes a film that is set or has scenes that are set in Baltimore is shot somewhere else.  Two nights ago, Anna and I watched the film, “My One and Only” starring Renee Zellweger and Kevin Bacon.  The only reason I wanted to see it is because I knew that a lot of filming had been done in Baltimore.  They had Mt. Vernon locked down for a week or so!

I knew that it was a “road” movie with the characters changing locations throughout the story but I figured that Baltimore was one of the cities that the characters would visit, due to the length of filming here.  Nope!  Dig this, Baltimore fills in for New York City, Pittsburgh and I think that they used some Baltimore County locations to fill in for rural St. Louis.

Another good one is when they filmed the last “Die Hard” movie, the scenes that were supposed to be Baltimore were shot in Newark, NJ and the Washington DC scenes were filmed in downtown Baltimore.  That spinning helicopter scene shut down the area around city hall and the War Memorial for three days.

Oh Hollywood, you so crazy!!

About scottcarberry

I'm one nifty dude who is fascinated by his hometown; Baltimore, MD. It is persistently beautiful and ugly and I wish to live nowhere else ever again.
